Tentative Agreement Ratified

Your bargaining committee is pleased to inform you that our tentative agreement has been ratified following a vote of the membership on Feb. 27.

The three-year collective agreement is effective retroactively to July 1, 2017, and will expire on June 30, 2020. The contract includes no wage increases in the first two years of the agreement, with wage re-opener negotiations for the third year beginning on May 1, 2019.

The agreement includes several improvements, including an additional $50 for eyeglasses coverage through your benefits plan. The Evening Shift Differential and Weekend Premium have also increased from $1.50 per hour to $1.75.

We were also able to achieve important improvements to the language of the collective agreement. They include:

• The definition of “internal candidates” for job opportunities now includes Temporary and Casual employees.
• Improved language around Union Stewards in the workplace.
• New language regarding how employer over payments will be repaid and how underpayments to employees will be corrected.
• All vacancies must be posted for a minimum of five working days before being filled.
• A comprehensive rewrite of the Grievance Procedure to streamline and modernize the process to ensure it is more practical for members.
• A new article to identify and address harassment, discrimination and bullying in the workplace.
• Improvements to language regarding sick leave benefits.
• A new Letter of Understanding addressing workload issues and establishing a process to resolve issues with union representation.

Copies of your new collective agreement will be available in the coming weeks. If you have any questions in the meantime, please reach out to a member of your bargaining committee.
