We had our fifth mediation meeting with the employer on March 13 and despite the employer’s efforts to stifle bargaining to this point, we were able to make a decent amount of progress.
That being said, to date we have yet to sign off on any agreed-to collective agreement articles. The employer continues to insist we track our progress along the way and sign off on all amended articles as a Memorandum of Agreement when the process is complete.
The following is a list of articles that have been agreed to by both your committee and the employer:

Article 13 — Maternity and Parental Leave (Employer Amended)
Article 24 — Local Authorities Pension Plan (Employer Amended)
Article 25 — Labour Management Committee (Employer Amended)
Article 26 — Training and Professional Development and Education (Current)
Article 27 — Travel and Transportation (Employer Amended)
Unfortunately, the employer would only withdraw its anti-union proposals for Articles 7, 8 and 9 if your committee agreed to withdraw our proposals for two new articles: Respect in the Workplace and No Discrimination.
We continue to be disappointed by our employer’s unwillingness to engage in good faith negotiations with our committee. We know your work is valuable, and instrumental to ensuring the students in our schools are fully supported. We will continue to advocate for your worth at the mediation table when we meet with the employer again in May.
