Non-Monetary Bargaining Complete
All non-monetary items are now signed off after two productive bargaining meetings held on Dec. 13 and 14.
Your bargaining committee is particularly happy that a new, comprehensive “Respectful Workplace” article was signed off, containing nearly all of the union’s proposed language. Additionally, bereavement is now a standalone article, and will no longer have a limit placed on how often an employee may access this type of paid leave.
Another addition to the collective agreement is a new article to allow for the creation of an Employee-Management Advisory Committee, which will allow employees to directly raise issues of concern. And, of note, are improvements to the Position Opportunities article which clarify the process and reaffirm the employer’s commitment to the ongoing career development and consideration of internal employment candidates.
With these items now complete, the employer has indicated it expects to table its monetary package during our next bargaining meeting on March 21, 2018. As we have already noted, however, the employer intends to offer zero wage increase and propose a two-year agreement.
That being said, we are pleased with the progress to date; we have been able to update the collective agreement to reflect current workplace practices at NAIT.
If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please contact a member of your bargaining committee or contact an AUPE staff member listed below.
