21 Aug 18-AUPE and Government of Alberta Sign Tentative Agreement

EDMONTON – Today, the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) and the Government of Alberta signed a tentative agreement on a new contract for approximately 23,000 front-line government services employees represented by the union.

“After close to a year and a half of bargaining and mediation, we’re pleased a tentative agreement was reached with the assistance of mediator Andy Sims that both sides find acceptable,” said AUPE vice-president Karen Weiers.

A ratification package will be mailed to members over the next few weeks, where they will review the details of the tentative agreement and vote on it through a mail-in ballot.

“Details of the tentative agreement will not be released publicly until members have had a chance to review and vote on it,” Weiers said.

Bargaining between AUPE and the government of Alberta began in April 2017. Mediation began in June 2018 after the employer filed for mediation in late May. If ratified, the three-year agreement will expire March 31, 2020.

AUPE is Alberta’s largest union representing more than 93,000 members province-wide.
