Bargaining Continues

The parties met for spirited bargaining discussions on Nov. 14 and 15 and were able to find agreement in a number of areas. Your committee was successful in its goal of amending ambiguous or unclear articles within the collective agreement, and also managed to find agreement with the employer on language reflecting the social and technological changes in the workplace.

We are happy to inform you the parties successfully signed off nearly a dozen collective agreement articles, along with four letters of understanding (LOUs). They are:

  • Union Recognition (Article 5)
  • Time off for Union Business (Article 9)
  • Attendance (Article 12)
  • Modified or Averaging Agreements (Article 14)
  • Acting Incumbent (Article 17)
  • Disciplinary Action (Article 19)
  • Grievance Procedure (Article 20)
  • Paid Holidays (Article 27)
  • Maternity and Parental Leave (Article 31)
  • NAIT Tuition Benefit (Article 41)
  • Rates of Pay (Article 42)
  • International Work Assignments LOU
  • Teleworking/Telecommuting LOU
  • NAIT/AUPE Jurisdictional Review Process LOU
  • Secondment for Union Vice President LOU (new)

Both parties have agreed to try to keep the current momentum in bargaining, which will inevitably slow down during discussions over monetary proposals. Your committee is committed to consistently advancing the interests of the membership at the table to ensure their work is valued properly.
